About me

Lewis Morrison

I have been working with stone for over a decade and in that time have learnt the traditional skills needed to shape natural stone for bespoke creative sculptures and the care for historic buildings.

My career started by working around the North East of Scotland caring for historic buildings and learning the foundation skills of stone masonry. I later moved to York and completed a traditional apprenticeship at York Minster Cathedral. This is where I refined the advanced skills needed to carefully shape natural stone. Whilst in York I won several awards including the Peter Moore award for best apprentice and a silver medal from the York Guild of Building for Excellence in traditional Crafts.

During my time at York Minster Works Department I completed many decorative pieces for the cathedral including a large scale grotesque that was recently featured in National Geographic magazine. The article can be seen here. https://www.nationalgeographic.com/culture/article/medieval-statues-grotesques-stonemasons

Now working back in the North East of Scotland I am combining the skills and discipline learnt from cathedral stone carving with the creativity from a Fine Art degree from Grays School of Art.

Advocating practical jobs for Disabled People

Unfortunatly shortly after my return to Scotland I suffered a Spinal Cord Injury from a motorbike accident. However despite being paralysed from the chest down I have returned to work with stone and am producing carvings from my workshop in rural Aberdeenshire.

If you or someone you know is disabled and interested in stonecarving or any  practical/ workshop based job please get in touch and I will happily discuss overcoming the barriers and hurdles involved.
